Well-trained employees are the key factor for the future fitness of a business. This is why the Austrian family business Biogena uses a multi-level personnel development system, promoting individual skills and regularly offering professional training. On 15th March, Biogena has been awarded the Great Place to Work Special Award for “Corporate training & lifelong learning” for its exceptional measures. Moreover, the company, which is based in Salzburg, is among the best employers in Austria for the third time in a row.

3-pillar model for lifelong learning

Lifelong learning and the limitless development of all employees is a significant success factor in corporate development for the manufacturer of micronutrient preparations. “It is crucial that our employees are promoted in their individual talents and potentials from the start. Biogena has created a multi-level personnel development system that has proven itself already for the third year in a row”, explains manager Roman Huber, who is pleased about the award. After the years 2015 and 2016, the company has been awarded as one of the best Austrian employers for the third time in a row by “Great Place to Work”.

Biogena invests up to 250.000 euros annually in the professional training of its team. Measures are defined in the annual evaluation interview, but are also discussed during the year in order to cover potentials and interests flexibly. In addition, a personnel development programme, divided into so-called “development spaces”, provides each employee with a suitable bundle of training measures according to age, position and professional experience. From apprentice to senior manager: at Biogena, all employees can plan their programme according to individual strengths and interests.

A unique measure is the additional “Bildungs1000er“, literally “training 1000“. Each employee can use up a budget of aliquot 1000 EUR freely and according to his or her interests. Learning a language, doing yoga, developing culinary or graphic skills – there are no limits.

According to the corporate motto “Health & science is our commitment”, the exciting world of micronutrients is made accessible to the whole team in order to enhance the professional competencies in the core business of the company. Employees can participate in the professional seminar MikronährstoffCoach® (Micronutrient coach), which was developed especially and which is offered by the Biogena Akademie, as well as in special modules concerning topics such as bowel health, exercise or women’s health.

“For us, it is important to pass on knowledge – to our clients as well as to our employees. The award proves that we are already on a very good way. A way that we will follow consistently – because there can be no end to lifelong learning”, Roman Huber explains.

Personal dialogue as key factor

Such a comprehensive training programme needs one thing first and foremost: time for  personal dialogue – at Biogena, an open dialogue is offered regularly from the onboarding phase. The 100-days feedback interview, exchange in the corporate Social Service Center – where employees can talk about their professional and personal issues with a trained social worker – or the regular evaluation interview: personal dialogue, on an equal footing with the executive managers, is a significant and often used tool in the Austrian company.
