Sustainability defined anew: the value-oriented management at Biogena
The value-oriented management ensures the corporate future fitness that is visible in many areas such as working environment or also the stakeholder communication. “For us, taking on responsibility means doing so in the whole company: from the interaction with our employees to the conscious handling of resources and to economic responsibility. From a CSR and value-oriented perspective, Biogena identified and implemented many ecologically relevant measures such as:
- The “eco-bottle”, a by-product of sugar cane exploitation, saves 100 tons CO2 per year as eco-friendly, food safe and plasticiser-free packaging material.
- Implementation of all demands from ISO14001/EMAS such as creating an eco-audit and environmental statement or conducting in-house environmental workshops.
- Revision of ecological and societal criteria in manufacturer audits and assessments.
- Energy-efficient office building with LED lamps (motion and day light sensor) and an air conditioning on the ceiling.
- Waste prevention due to an E-ordering system in the sales area.
- Reduction of the CO2 emissions with company-owned E-bikes and job tickets for public transport for the employees.
- Photovoltaic system and usage of green electricity in all locations.
Since the last assessment in 2014, Biogena managed to establish more milestones as far as environmental management is concerned and reached an excellent result: “We were able to expand our values in areas such as energy and resources usage, transport, waste strategy or sensitisation internally as well as externally. We are glad to see that these measures have an immediate effect – this motivates our team to take the next large steps”, says Stefanie Merz, quality and environment manager at Biogena.

About Green Brands
GREEN BRANDS is an international and independent brand marketing organisation that awards the GREEN BRANDS seal of quality in international cooperation with market research institutions and polling firms as well as independent institutions in the segment of environmental protection, climate protection and sustainability. The procedure of awarding this seal is unique worldwide and divided into three stages. Brands qualify themselves for the extensive GREEN BRANDS validation procedure through a representative questioning of the population or through a nomination by an NGO, an association or by a member of the jury. The high-ranking jury as highest authority only decides about the awarding of the seal when a brand reaches a benchmark on the GREEN BRANDS index.
