L-carnitine: An endogenous substance
L-carnitine is a naturally occurring substance, which is produced from the amino acids lysine and methionine. In foodstuffs, carnitine is mainly found in meat and as a result a purely vegetarian or vegan diet contains little or almost no carnitine. Aside from the intake through food, carnitine is also produced in our body if there is a sufficient quantity of essential co-factors available in the form of micronutrients. The total amount of L-carnitine in the body amounts to approximately 25 g, whereby the proportion is particularly high in the tissues with a high fatty acid metabolism, such as the skeletal and cardiac muscles. Biogena L-Carnipur 500 contains L-carnitine derived from a controlled and standardised production and thus, meets the highest quality requirements. The high bio-availability makes L-Carnipur 500 a good supplement to the daily intake of L-carnitine.
