L-tyrosine is an amino acid and an exceptionally high quantity can be found in poultry, fish, dairy products and legumes. German chemist, Justus von Liebig, first discovered tyrosine in 1846 in common cheese, which is also the reason for the name of this amino acid. The Greek word “tyros” simply means “cheese”. L-tyrosine is a non-essential amino acid because it can be formed by our body from the essential amino acid phenylalanine. In the body, L-tyrosine acts as a precursor of the hormones and neurotransmitters dopamine, noradrenalin and adrenalin. These hormones belong to the group of catecholamines, which takeover numerous different functions in the human body. Biogena L-Tyrosin 400 supplies the body with the amino acid L-tyrosine in a targeted manner.

The intake of L-tyrosine should be avoided during pregnancy, while breast-feeding, in case of high blood pressure and severe liver diseases. L-tyrosine should not be taken simultaneously with L-dopa (an antiparkinson medication).
