Turmeric(Curcuma longa) is a traditional ingredient in various spice blends. Curcumin is extracted from the roots of the turmeric plant and standardized to the curcuminoids contained in the root for use as a dietary supplement. Curcuma longa has a long tradition in India and China and is no longer unknown in Europe. the spice with its sunny yellow color found its way to Europe in the late Middle Ages via the Silk Road, which led from China via India and Central Asia to the Mediterranean.
