The maritime pine (Pinus pinaster), also known as the maritime pine or Bordeaux pine, is native to the Atlantic coast of France and can grow to be 300 years old. As early as the 4th century, the ancient Greek Hippocrates already appreciated the bark of this tree – and Hippocrates also saw more than just the truth in grape wine. Nowadays it is known that maritime pine bark extract is particularly rich in the valuable plant substances "proanthocyanidins" and "polyphenols". The targeted supply of maritime pine bark extract protects the vascular walls and supports normal blood circulation.
